The primary purpose of christianity is to obtain one’s status from the via positiva love of jesus and via negativa fear of god, so that one’s animal instincts are not victims of the judgements and opinions of others. This is the first function of religion. This function may scale upward to the social and political, and downward to sedation in times of anguish and suffering. The human accounting system is status, because the physical universe, the necessity of acquisition, the utility of cooperation, and the discounts and premiums on cooperation produced by one’s status – and christianity effectively insulates one from market competition on other than the terms of christian love. In other words – christianity is communism for social status which is why jews and christians are suckers for socialism. Everything else is decoration.
